WTB 4.6is

Hi everyone,
Looking for a 4.6is. I would like a really clean vehicle with all of the maintenance (including preventative) done and receipts to show for it.

Thanks
Adas

How much are you looking to spend?

Hi J.Belknap,
I see from your handle that your 4.6is is a Dinan supercharged one - which tells me yours is probably out of my price-range!

To be honest with you, I'm looking at around the $10k mark. As you're probably aware, the market ranges anywhere from $6k (for a high-miler, more than likely badly looked after one) through to $15k (low mileage, history, Dinan mods, etc.). But it all comes down to how many receipts are available to prove that the major work has been done (transmission, timing chain guides, etc.).

At the end of the day, I'm flexible and would pay a little more for the 'right' car with a great history and work done on it, but I am not a $15k buyer.

Post-script on my comment about $6k-$15k cars and my budget of $10k (but flexible for the right car):

I've been looking at one or two other threads here, people asking about 'what goes wrong' with 4.6is' and 'what sort of money is fair for these cars'. I certainly don't want to insult anyone by suggesting that I expect to get an absolute 'garage-queen' with ALL the major maintenance work done for $10k. I know that these cars are not cheap, and if you want a well looked after one, then don't expect to spend $7-8k for one.

I am keen to learn from current and past owners (and prospective sellers!) so please set me straight with any advice.

Thanks again.

Good call on knowing about transmission & timing chain guide service. You're on the right path. Good luck in your hunt.

Thanks J.B, much appreciated.

And just a 'bump' for anyone else out there who might have a well-loved 4.6is that they are considering parting with! Please let me know!

I don't know if it is well documented or not, but there's on in Vegas for sale. Higher miles (145k). Not mine. No affiliation. Never seen it up close and personal or from far away. YMMV.

Thanks Kirk - interesting. I like that it has the alcantara trim as well. But a few things that scare me - if the power steering pump is such a 'cheap fix', then why doesn't he fix it? And the passenger window regulator? People who just 'live' with these sorts of issues with their car scare me. Particularly something like a power steering pump issue. Good price, but there's probably a reason for that...

But thanks for the steer, I'm keen to look at all of them!

How far have you cast your net? If you find anything in the DMV area Id be happy to look at them for you but honestly I have yet to see anything locally that I would recommend that meets your requirements.

My buddy did just snag a decent mileage with TONS of receipts and bunch of PM on the car. Was extremely well kept and over maintained so they are out there but he had to fly out of state to get it.

Good luck

Hi OptimusPriM5,
I live in the mountains of Colorado, so it's safe to say that any 4.6is I end up buying will at least be a way out, if not out of state... I'm more than happy to go out of state. There are a couple for sale at Dealers in the Denver area at the moment, but they don't look that appealing. I would obviously want one with the TONS of receipts like you buddy did.

Just out of curiosity, what did he end up spending (if you don't mind me asking) and what sort of work had been done on it?

Thanks
Adas
