All your hard work certainly paid off, nicely. Excellent result, on an unforgiving color. A job well done is its own reward. |
Looking great - like brand new

How about a nice and easy drive down 95 to do mine? |

Hey - thanks for the compliments all - that was a ton of work (18hrs - all by hand) and my hands are sore. Laura, Michelle, - I really like the way your questions sound (sorry, just the way my mind works) - I'd really enjoy working on your X's with you if we ever had the opportunity - but I'll need at least a couple of weeks to put the recent trauma of "doing my own" behind me. I figure with 2 of us working on each vehicle together, we should be able to do the whole job in under 10 hours... Maybe a threesome doing each of ours would be even more fun (but somehow I get the feeling it'll take even longer)! ;) Perhaps someday... - a few beers, a Zaino kit, some Wayne's towels, a couple of water fights, and some scraped knuckles - sounds like fun! Doc, Rangerfan - If you guys would like to join us while we're doing each of ours, you're more than welcome, but you guys will have to bring a ton of beer!
BTW - The engine bay is also done now - about another 3 hours. I'll see if I can post a couple more pics later today. I don't want to drive it now! :tsk: |

Engine bay is unfreakinreal! One could eat off the hoodliner... See you got that special 7.8L motor, too, ;>) Now park that sumbitch and get the covered trailer ready for the DCMeet. BR,md |
Does this mean snow season is officially over?

You think I'm excited? |
Ladies Man!
Looks like X5Jay...is in demand...for his...waxing skills...! Ahhh huh... P.S; Can my neighbor's cat sleep on your hood? Exactly. I rest my case. |
Ol'Uncle Motor is right: You could eat off that engine bay. Wow, that is pristine.
Q: What products did you use on the engine bay, and what was your process? Thanks in advance. |

Like any job, breaking it down into smaller components makes it easier to tackle. I break up the space into 4 or 5 areas... I use a few older towels and I lay them around the engine compartment leaving only one of the areas uncovered and I concentrate on just one area at a time. I use another towel heavily dampend with water (but not dripping) and I gently clean everything in that one area that I can possibly reach. As quickly as I clean a couple of spots within an area, I dry them with a dry towel. For those areas that are especially hard to reach, I use a detailer's tool - has a pointy rubber tip that I can wrap the damp rag around to dig into tight crevices. When I'm done with one section, I move on to the next. Rinse the rag thoroughly with fresh clean water after each section. I also did the underside of the hood along with the hood liner (gently on the hood liner). When I'm done with all the cleaning, I move onto the 303. However, I use just a lightly 303-misted rag that is already damp (just damp this time, not soaked) with water and I go over all of the plastic with that. If you use too much 303 I think it will look too shiny (I like the clean "showroom-new" look better than shiny). Let the 303 settle into the plastic for a good half hour, and then lightly wipe everything down one more time with a dry rag - evens everything out and makes it look new as opposed to shiny. I even do the silver engine cover with the 303 as well, but I Zaino the BMW stripe down the middle. That's it! Takes me about 2 hours if I take my time and really try to dig deep. Watch your knuckles! |
Always nice when people take care of their vehicles.

Looks Great!!!
Very nice work:) |
All I can say is WOWOWOWOW. Thats dedication to car cleaning. After all that work I would avoid driving the car, especially if it rains:)
|
I've already had to drive it in the rain - bummer! It'll be much easier to clean next time though - in a few days... Thanks for the compliments!
|
that last pic would make a great
custom splash screen. |
