How to clean aluminium running boards?
 

Hi - anyone know how to clean the accessory alloy running boards on my 2003 X5?

They have a milky haze to them and what appears to be rust spots but how can that be in alloy?

I asked my local dealer and he said they all go like that!!!!:mad:

I don't have the running boards but you might want to look into Flitz. I have used it on other things and it works very well.

I asked this question a couple of months back and was told that clay bar would remove the rust spots, which is caused by brake dust oxidizing on the running boards.

Maybe another member can comfirm as I never got around to trying it out.

Auto sol metal cleaning paste is excellent then I cover with alloy wheel sealer lasts for a good few months.

Incdidentally - I looked up Flitz which appears an excellent wonder product but only seems to be readily available in the US. :)

Clay Bar eh? No doubt a very dim question but what is clay bar - not just a bar of clay surely?

Thanks for the suggestion of Flitz - it looks an excellent product.

I did find it on eBay but will look on a little further to see if I can find something readily available in the UK.

I use Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish on mine...works great.

I like the idea of finishing up with the sealer...I'll try a good coat of wheel wax on mine.
