Electric polisher or not?
Just ordered the Zaino system for my bimmers and Porsche. Should I get the Porter/Cable polisher?

gary,
the porter cable is a great tool, you can't go wrong. phil |
I stand by the Poter Cable as well, and once again a huge thanks to the generous X5World members who chipped in to get me one at the DC Meet that I hosted in May.

I got mine from here: http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/S...htm?E+coastest |
I bought my PC at Coastal Tool as well. If you're a clean car fanatic, it is an indispensable tool. Doing a full detail on a vehicle, especially a large vehicle like a BMW SAV can be excruciatingly tedious and tiring. Assuming you're going to wash, clay, and apply a couple of layers of professional detail products, it's no fun doing it by hand. The PC cuts down the time to apply the glaze, wax, and sealant. It allows me to do a complete detail on my X5 and my wife's E46 in about 6 hours including beer breaks. Without the PC, 1 car by hand per day was my max.
To make it relative, the PC costs 2 tanks of gas. It's a worthwhile investment. Make sure you invest in a good set of buffing pads. |
Great tool. Lots of info on how to use it on Autopia. Ditto on getting good pads. Like good tires for a car, good pads for a PC make or break the performance.

Best Bday present my wife has gotten me. Cuts the time way down. I buffed out the swirl marks on my previous vehicle in no time flat. Can't wait to try it out on the X5.

Griot's sells them too. I think it's the exact same thing with a red Griot body attached and a different handle. I'm looking at this one for myself. Anyone know if it's better or worse than the PC, or are they really the same thing?

I have the groits one and the porter cable one the only difference is the handle I like the thread in grip as opposed to the Ushaped handle on the groits piece but i do use thier orange and red pads exclusivly some of the best I have found in terms of durability and quality

I am the SUXOR with a PC :( I used one once and would still like to get my own. I just can't get it right for the life of me.
Also, nothing beats a last coat of Z2 lightly applied with the grain instead of swirl motion. |
