Hand Wash only?

How many of you hand wash your SAV or go to a touchless car wash? Never took my X5 to the car wash. Don't want got get swirl marks. People must think I'm crazy doing that and detailing for like 3 hrs sometimes. :nanana:  What do you guys use on your SAV? I try to claybar it once a year. Do a good wax before winter and after.

I use a touchless car wash in winter, and by hand the rest of the time. Never had an issue with it except that it really doesn't clean very well - just gets the major stuff off. But here in the N. east, I don't see much choice...

Most here are like you and only hand wash. I get flamed for going to the car wash.

Sorry, but at 30 degrees, touchless. Handwash myself otherwise.

Handwash only. If it's in for any work at my local BMW dealers, they write 'Handwash only' on all the paper work - they know how particular I am about it. Although, I have seen them put brand new M5's, X5's, M6's etc etc through a car wash (BMW approved) before being handed over to new buyers - criminal!!!!

I use a carwash and a touchless carwash. What is the problem with regular car washes?

I've always washed all my rides by hand. That way I can guarantee it doesn't get messed up in the process.

Washed it for the first time through a touchless car wash the other day. It got most of the stuff off, but there's still a film of dirt around the car. Next time I'll definitely wash by hand.

Because the 3 hours is too short? I've been known to spend the better part of a weekend with my process. I have yet to try my process on my X5 but on my previous vehicle I would wash, clay, wash, polish, wax, and seal. Usually 10 hours +. PC helps cut down on that time.....

Oh, and with all the salt they put on the roads here I have no choice but to run through the car wash in the winter. I do not use the gas station car wash, but a higher end car wash should be fine.

I hand wash in the warmer months. During winter I will go to a carwash with a heated stall and use the sprayer to blast off the major stuff, handwash with my own soap and bucket, then rinse with the wand again. Then dry it while I am still there before heading out into the cold.
