Leaf blower?

I'm thinking of getting a leaf blower to dry my X5 after a wash. Anyone uses one? Which ones are good to get?

motordavid 02-22-2007 08:40 PM

I've used one for 20 years. It isn't rocket science...
pick your poison: backpack or hand held gas powered
or, electrically driven.

Almost any of the electric cheapies at Lowes/HD will blow
with enough velocity to really sweep most of the water.
Follow with some soft cotton towels or microfiber and
ya'll ready for some Zaino.

I've used my RedMax backpack gas blower on my cars
and M'cycles for decades. Works great.

And, for the obsessed purists that might pour outta the
woodwork and predict that you'll toss a rock at car,
I've never had it happen. Urban myth, stupidity, bad luck
or some of the above.

I bought I think one for about $70 bucks electric works well.

I've been using it for a while as well, saves my towels from wear and tear. ;)

Use a Toro electric that I had gotten over 5 years ago. Use it primarily to blow the water out of the seams so it doesn't keep dripping after the car is dry. It also knocks the bulk of the water off.

Yea that's why I wanted to get one. OMG all my stack of towels for one wash hahaha. Then I use the chamis. But still this would make drying my X5 alot faster! Thanks so far for all the info!

You may want to try Adam's "Waffle" microfiber drying towel. Best non-scratching I've ever used! Drinks a lot of water. I just lay it down and drag the corners accross the car. Dry in no time!

Me too! Toro electric. Saves time and gets that pesky water outta those seams and openings where a towel can't go. I even blow out the inside of the car. Gets out dirt and dust where your vacuum will never reach.

Interesting! I gotta try that next wash time.

Never even would have thought of this. Looks like I will dig out that B&D blower more than a couple of times a year!

What a great idea!!! IŽll try it soon.

Wonder if it counts as garden work i my wifeŽs mind?

exactly! the leaf blower is too noisy and bulky really.. i have one that is part of my wet/dry shopvac and blows at 115mph. worked great but it's way too noisy for the effort...

the shop compressor with air gun works much better...

I thought I was the only one crazy enough to do that. My neighbors probably think I'm nuts, blasting away with my airgun attachment.

Honestly i thought this idea was absurd when i first read it. I usually use a california jelly blade to get the majority of the water off, blow out around the windows and door handles, then towel the rest. I actually now see that a leaf blower would work but i think it would just be a pain in the ass. I also understand that there are some people that don't have air compressors so that poses a problem. I have worked as a detailer for a few years now so i have always had the luxury of having compressed air on tap. Do whatever works for you...

Just don't use the nail gun...

And all this time I thought I was the only crazy lazy doing this...I have a little Toro electric that works great...have not figured out to get it to buff the wax tho...
