Detailed my 5 year old

A few quick shots of my 5 year old. I think I just fell in love all over again.

Sprayed, clayed, and displayed.

I have Black envy! She looks great.

ncx 04-23-2007 03:33 PM

Thanks all! There's nothing like cruising in your ride after a full detail and great weather.

Uncle MD -
Here's the one that I still have that I plan to sell this summer. It was purchased new in my family in '84 but doesn't do it for me for many reasons.

Yeah that is on the list. I was going to clear them out when I did my other front end work (delete the front bar, change the front bumper cover, angel eyes). I may just go ahead with angel eyes and clears soon and skip the front bumper work.

Thanks again folks.

Verbalkint 04-23-2007 07:14 PM

WoW! Looks great, K. :2thumbs:

What kind of wax did you use?

Black is an unforgiving color, but, man, does it look great when it's all clean and shiny.

Nicely done.

dr.jay 04-23-2007 07:34 PM

OK, that is halarious and I probably should not tell her you said that. But I will. Then, on to MD's honest and classic reply (... thinking 'Corvette' and not my CEO):

Thanks bro. I keep telling myself I will stop buying black or really dark colored cars because they are such a pain to keep clean and a pain to make them look really good. But when they are cleaned up right they're stunning.

I like to try different waxes and polishes. So I make sure to completely remove the old products each time. This time I used off the shelf stuff: Megiures clay, Meguires #2 polish (old skool product), Meguires NXT paste wax, and Mother's Showtime spritz. Lexol cleaner and conditioner on the leather. Carnauba paste on the wheels. I need to make a big order from Zaino and Griots, maybe Wayne's too. I need to get stocked back up.

K,
I meant that Vette of yours I saw a pic of...

C is/looks a lot less than "mature" in my opin.

ncx 04-23-2007 09:15 PM

MD, I know what you meant I just thought that was funny! JV was being rude as usual and you were correct in your guess of a mature 'vette. Just a funny response after JV's line. Funny stuff.

I think the woman would get it if you told her I said it, she knows I'm a jokester! (by the way...she don't need no detailing!)

I actually took Marta to get detailed last weekend cause we had a fancy party to go to Saturday night. She got her hair did and afterwards those Vietnamese ladies hooked her up with eyebrow pluckin' and manicure/pedicure in less than an hour:wow: Then I sprayed her down with Z6 and used the porter cable to buff the nails to a high gloss shine!

Ya know, you got me thinking... I suppose a good clay bar would also help exfoliate a ladies skin... hellava lot cheaper that the place she goes to now. You, Sir, are a GEENYUS!

RACK IT!

Bokke 04-26-2007 04:23 PM

Nice!!!

streetsoffire 04-26-2007 05:38 PM

ncx: How long did it take to clay it, start to finish? And what brand did you use? I am having a detail shop clay the X and an S6 this weekend (they said 4hrs each whip), cuz I have the patience of a 4yr old on a sugar high....... and yeah; your X is a smokeshow.......

ncx 04-26-2007 05:59 PM

Thanks guys.

Streets... IMO, the claying process goes pretty quickly on a vehicle that is not in horrible condition. I have no patience really either. I used Meguires newest clay on this one and it took maybe 40 mins to do the X and then I went back and worked with a few spots that I thought needed a little more work. First time I've used clay off the shelf a the auto parts store. It did a terrific job but there isn't much in the kit. Keep in mind that my X is clayed at every major detail so the paint was not in bad condition like a car that has never been clayed. So some cars would definitely take longer to clay the first time. Hope that helps.

Make sure to post pics of your rides after they get all shined up.

ljnlaw 04-26-2007 07:24 PM

she's a looker, beautiful X

chefwong 04-27-2007 09:57 AM

Streetsoffire -

I think you need to clarify with your shop but at 4 hrs per clay, I suspect they would mean 4hrs to clay and polish.

Claying is usually followed up with polishing IMO, as even the slightest micromarring will come out of claying.
