Mother's Back to Black is a great product! I've used it on several of my cars with fantastic results. It doesn't leave a tacky wet-look like those horrible Armor All products.

Follow the directions carefully. Unlike Black WOW (also a great product, harder for me to find locally tho) you need to use a fair amount of Back to Black, sometimes in multiple coats. But it will restore your black plastic trim to a like-new state.

I actually just used some today on my trusty old '98 Civic beater. 11 years old and the plastic trim looks like it just rolled out of the factory.

One thing I should note tho: Don't use Back to Black on rubber window trim on ANY car. While it may work okay on some cars, from my experience getting any on rubber leads to a nightmare of buffing you won't soon forget in order to get the streaks out.

Also something worth noting is that Back to Black works great to restore the roof racks on our X5's. Yeah they're aluminum but it still works to bring a deep rich black to the rails. Mine were a tiny bit dulled and out of curiosity I tried it on a very small area. Worked great so I did both rails. They look brand new!

Any ideas on how to get quite scratches out of the plastic trim?

is there a way you can get a photo, from my experience though if the black plastic trim is scratched its scratched.

Hot Hair dryer will do the trick.

thanks all, I sanded it down in the end, lost some of the rought look of the rest of the but its something I can live with, scratches were too deep to be ‘blended in’ and just smoothing out the bad bits would have made the whole surface look to uneven, smooth in one place and rough elsewhere
