Window Tint Removal

So i got caught by the MAN! I had to remove my 15% tint on the front and install a front plate. My X looks like a completely different auto. It looks like it wants to go to soccer practice instead of racing to the game.

So i used a cheap little steamer. It was very easy to remove the tints, much easier than i had anticipated. I started top center. used a razor blade to start then when there was enough there to grab with my fingers i did. from there on out it was steam and pulling. There was a couple spots that glue stayed on the windows, but was easily removed with the razor blade and the power of STEAM!:D One tip would be to repetidly hit the edges with the steamer even before you get near them. This will soften up the glue and make for a better chance of it all comming off with the tint on that last pull to get it out from behind the molding.

if you have tints and get pulled over, my suggestion would be to roll down the windows, maybe that may help or bring attention to them. i think it will help. and maybe the front plate in the dash can help to, so have that ready. i did, but the officer already had his pen ready.

another obvious tip would be to use your radar detector as a roll down you widow advisory, that is if you not speeding then do both:thumbup: ;)

I have found that the ticket costs less than it would cost me to have the tint replaced with a "legal" tint, so I am just going to take the risk.

That sucks..Around here cops don't care about the tint %...I've been pulled over many, many, many times...Never once did they care about the tint. I have 20% on my front 2 windows. legal is 35%...

In the past I have used windex (any glass cleaner), blow dryer, and a razor blade.

First saturate the window with windex and then warm up the tint with the blow dryer, carefully loosen the edges of the tint with the razor blade, and pull the tint from the window. any spots that do not easily pull from the window... spray with windex and clean with a razor.. this process has worked for me a few times in the past. (I hate it when I buy a used vehicle and it has cheap purple tint!)

this process is really easy and will save some $ if you get your windows re-tinted as tint shops usually charge a high price to remove old tint..
