How do you remove rust spots from wheel hub?
I have some rust spots on the wheel hub - previous owner probably used harsh wheel cleaner and didn't protect after.
Anyway, was wondering on best to way to remove. Someone recommended wiping hub with WD40 sparingly on a cloth. Seems almost suicidal to me to use WD40 anywhere near brakes??? Any other recommendations, I plan on waxing the hubs well after cleaning to prevent this happening again. Thanks |
Best longterm fix is to paint the wheel hubs with durable silver paint (for example the same type used for brake calipers) . I used this on mine and they held up very well for the past 2yrs. I recently replaced all 4 rotors with new ones and BMW has actually now changed the rotors to have anodized hubs which should be durable during NE winters :)

Good to hear about the hubs Jan. Are u a detailing freak like some of us ;-)
I hate how the rotors and calipers look like crap compared to the rest of the car. Been thinking about painting them + the rotor hubs, but no one seems to *guarantee* the paint will last on the rotors. Remember Art's post about the nickle plating. I don't that lasted well for him too. |
