And I'm sorry you feel that I'm shaping up to be an ass but if you ever ventured to the E53 forum I try to be very helpful to members in maintaining their vehicles, especially with help fixing the air ride suspension, and have set up a registry for members with the rare manual transmission configuration to post up and collectively gather informaion, as most postings are related to automatic owners.

I thought the BMW/X5 forums were supposed to be different than the VW/honda kids, but since I wasn't exactly clear on what I said and you failed to ask me to elaborate, I'm now "shaping up to be an ass"? Sort of a childish comment wouldnt you say?

And I'm sorry if my user name doesn't sit well with you either, obviously you think my user name reflects my personality, so that should sit the same for everyone on the forums as well right? What are we, 10 years old? You think I'm going to start making snide comments about your user name "kungpao"? I'm a little bit more mature than that.

If the detailing forum is going to be filled crap like this, I'll stick to PM's with Phil from DD and I'll stay in the E53 forum from here on out.

EDITED: thank you for a respectable conversation

Not fuming mad at all.. just a pet peeve. That and I happen to be one of "Those people". While I agree that the OP could have phrased that better, it's entirely possible that the guy's first language isn't English and that his comment was just straight forward and to the point. I get coming to DD's aid if you're happy with them. That's a good thing. It makes people like me who've got eyes on several products on their site and waiting for the opportune time to pull the trigger on them without my wife cutting my nuts off to make the purchase feel good about buying those products.

Sorry for the callout but don't say it if you don't want to be held to it. :stickpoke

And yeah. I consider what you and I are having now a discussion. I'm frugal with my purchases. Doesn't make me a loser.

So do YOU have any experience with this foamer? If so, how do you like it? How is it better than hosing the car down to wet the surface and then using a bucket wash with adequate soap lube?

Ricky Bobby 10-10-2012 03:46 PM

hey i'm in the same boat man, I coupon code and free ship myself to the wall, and i double check retail me not on everything! see below, and i appreciate us being able to talk like men.

I think the foamer's positive effect is more "suds" on the car than sponge and bucket, giving more lubrication and lessening swirls on the surface during washing.

That and spraying the foam on the surface instead of rubbing it on the car with a sponge is potentially gentler on the paint finish, but thats all in theory.

Personally, I have not bought a foamer yet from DD, but if I were to, since I am not one of the lucky ones who owns a pressure washer, I would buy the "Gilmour foam gun" he sells since it can be used with a regular hose. Gilmour makes a pretty decent quality product, I also own a brass shut off valve and firehose nozzle from Gilmour, not made of cheap plastic and I definitely would recommend Gilmour products.

To be honest, my shut off valve and Gilmour firehoze nozzle came from Lowes believe it or not! When we were making a million trips during our renovations this spring, the brass shut off is like 10 bucks and the firehoze nozzle is like 6 dollars, so for both, its actually less than the Uber Firehose nozzle you can buy from DD (which I would recommend as well, seen that in action at his BBQs and it works well)

I'm quite happy with my nozzle combination and my 2 bucket car washing method for now however, but I may try the Uber wool wash mitt sometime soon!

 Who's coming across as fuming mad? :D I didn't see this post until after my reply but it's quite comical to me now.

Ricky Bobby? That movie was funny as hell. Sorry to poke fun if that's your real name. My reference was to the movie. Heck I thought it was quite amusing when Kurt Bush ran the paint scheme in NASCAR this year when he didn't have a sponsor. They had movie quotes going on all race between him and the pit crew.

As for Kungpao... i'm obviously not chicken LMAO My name starts with Pao so kungpao (yes the chinese food) kinda became a nickname.

"not one of the lucky ones to own a pressure washer" Yep. i'm in that camp too. Don't have one of them but wish I did. My wheels would thank me for it I'm sure. I got it worse.. I have a fire hose nozzle but my city water pressure is so low that i had to invest in a boost pump. :(
Someday I'll pony up to that foamer. I like the idea of it just not the hit on the wallet.

You're speaking in riddles to me I know not of this boost pump for hoses you speak of, lol.

And no Ricky Bobby is not my real name although it would be funny, I just started using the screen name after the movie came out in 05 (7 years ago already wow) and its stuck with me on forums ever since.

Honestly, if you have the coin, a foam gun is fun, but I think its a much better investment if you already use the pressure washer on your car, I think just spraying foam out of your garden hose can't be as good as with the pressure washer.

Boost pump:

Low pressure city water------> Boost pump ------> Higher pressure water ----> House.

It's a device to boost the water pressure in my entire home. The city water pressure at my home was barely enough to get soap off of ME while showering let alone the car too!!
