People say I sound far away...

I switched out the sunroof, sos and mic locations so now the mic resides were the sunroof switch used too.

People still say I sound low. My mic is pointed towards the windsheild.

What have you guys done? I know others have had this problem.

Don't forget that you are essentially on a big speakerphone travelling 60mph. It isn't going to sound the same as talking into a handset.
The green back mic (pn 319) is the one specified for use with the ULF based systems.

Do you think it has anything to do with the phone? I have the same problem and I am using the blackberry 7290, not on the bmw approved list.

I would be happy to set up a time for you to call me from the car. I have a pretty well "calibrated" ear to what it should sound like. I have a Blackberry 7100 and it seems to be fine, but the phone definitely can play a role. You can also as a "last resort" completely reset the ULF and pair your phone again.

How do you reset the ULF?

This is for the visteon ulf. Not sure if it is the same for the motorola module.

You can reset the module - deleting everything in it. You get to the BT Pairing stage then press the button again and hold it until you hear beeping - after one or two beeps release the button and it should say "reset" on the screen.

Try this mic! 84 31 6 938 762 Far superior to the old one. Better noise cancellation, better gain.

A friend of mine's wife was an exec at Visteon prior to her departure for bigger and better. I have talked to a number of her friends about this stuff, and they are all about voice quality. One of the main reasons for the DSP upgrades in the new ULFs and the Mic changes were to address exactly what you are experiencing.

Also a crucial configuration of the mic is with the ARROW pointing towards the front of the car. The mic is mechanically designed to get the greatest gain with the arrow facing forward. The arrow is embossed on the mic.

Thanks Martin; I've already ordered the new mic. Most people just say it's good for noise cancellation; I didn't hear anything from people saying it makes people sound louder.
