Voice dialing through the Bluetooth system 2005 & 2006 X5
Spent a large amount of time with the dealer to find out why the BMW voice command system would not see my phone book. It turns out that the voice command system has its own phone book that you must load separately. It does not see the phone book from the phone & on the radio/dash display. After spending some time loading that phone and following the very limited command language the system understands; the voice dialing through the button on the steering wheel now works! I have a Motorola 815 phone that pairs with the Blue tooth system on my X5 |

I have a dozen of my most used phone numbers stored by name ("Dial Name"). It is the quickest way to dial since I have over 50 numbers stored in each of my BT phones (Motorola 635 and BB 7250) which requires scrolling through them which takes my eyes off the road. I only dial by number ("Dial Number") if it is not already stored by name or in one of the downloaded address books.
I find the voice recognition capability is excellent...rarely makes a mistake.

It does work well as long as you use the key comand words
I find it does work ok.
Don't like the fact that I had load these names into the system. I also did not find the information in the BMW book. |

Yes, all 05 and 06 **USA** models fitted with the Motorola BT/Assist TCU are voice input enabled for the *phone* only (Note: European models will probably have a seperate module for Voice Input). As already mentioned the phone book and the voice input system share a seperate database.
Hold the voice button (looks like a face) on the steering wheel for a second or two and you should hear a beep. Just say "Help" and its all easy from there. I made this cheat sheet .... since BMW to my knowledge, at least, have still not documented the voice commands in the Telephone user guide for I-Bus vehicles ... which I think is disgraceful .... after 2 years! Anything that has a >> << round it is what you say. >> Help << Dialing a Telephone Name You Say: Voice Output: -------------------------------- >> Dial Name << Please speak Name >> <Name> << Do you wish to dial <Name> >> Yes << Dialing <Name> >> No << System Off Dialing a Telephone Number >> Dial Number << Please Speak Number >> One, Eight.. << One, Eight, .. >> Dial Number << Dialing >> Correction << One, …. {The last number entered is removed on playback} >> Delete << Please speak the Number {You may start again} Cancel voice input at any time >> Cancel << System off >> Clear << System Off Storing a Telephone Number: >> Save Name<< Please Speak the Name >> XYZ << Please repeat >> XYZ << Please Speak the Number >> One, two << One, Two .. >> Save << The Name and Number are saved >> Correction << One, …. {The last number entered is removed on playback} >> Delete << Please speak the Number {You may start again} Deleting a Telephone Number: >> Delete Name << Please speak the Name >> XYZ << Would you like to delete XYZ >> Yes << Name and Number are deleted >> No << System Off Clearing the entire phonebook >> Delete Phone Book << Would you like to all entries in the phonebook >> Yes << Are you sure ? >> Yes << The Phonebook has being deleted >> No << System Off Dialing a number from Memory: >> Dial Name << Please speak the Name >> XYZ << XYZ, are you sure ? >> Yes << Dialing … >> No << System off Reading out the phonebook >> Read Phonebook << (Reads out enteries) >> Dial << Dialing {After a name has being read} Redial last number used: >> Redial << Dialing Last edited by apw2607; 03-10-2006 at 03:03 PM. |
