Why no SMS option in my 05 4.8is?

I recall there being an SMS option on the NAV of my E46 M3, but the new X5 does not have the option in the phone menu. Do I need to change something in a sevice menu or something to get the SMS functionality.

I am using a Motorola Q via bluetooth.

Thanks,

Tom

I am not sure about the US but in the UK you dont get the SMS function if you have the Bluetooth telephone preparation with telematics. You do with just Bluetooth Preparation. You get a choice of these options when you buy I know if you get the COmms package you get the telematics.

I think the easiest way to tell is if you have the BMW assist option in your menu even if its not live. If you have this you wouldnt get SMS. BUt there is a way of doing it through BMW assist.

In which case you dont get SMS as you have telematics. You get bluetooth voice in the package, You wont get Nav voice control if you dont have the voice control option ie the additional Voice module in the trunk on your drivers side enclosed panel.

Again easiest way to tell without looking is to press your voice button on the steering wheel and say HELP if you dont get a response you aint got it.

But you can retro fit it, the wiring will be there, thats what I did, see the X5 home page someone posted a how to under navigation.

Certainly in the US, the Assist with Bluetooth option (made for BMW by Motorola) does not support SMS messaging. This module only include VR for Phone only.

The fact you had it in your M3, maybe because you had the Bluetooth only module. This module, made for BMW by Visteon does support SMS (after a certain generation) with an appropriate handset. This module also includes VR commands for Phone, NAV and notepad (again for US based cars).

Yes....

M3 did not have Assist, I added the Bluetooth Module a year after purchase. It did support VR for Phone, Nav and notes...

I will just look at SMSs on my phone...

Thanks,

Tom
