Bluetooth in 2001 X5, European

I have a 2001 3.0i-German version X5 with built in BMW GSM mobile telephone system (wireless handset).
Most likely this is a Siemens Bit II system.
This system just went belly-up , and the price for repair is horrendous .

Is it possible to utilise the existing antenna, microphone, voice recognition etc and install an aftermarket Bluetooth system instead ?

Thx
Lars

Lars, did you ever get any response to this/what did you end up doing?

Yes of course. You just need a bluetooth retrofit kit to change from BIT II to Bluetooth.

Here is a link with more information. All X5s can be upgraded to support bluetooth in all regions. It is a simple and straight forward task
