Motorola SLVR L7 issues

I recently got a Motorola SLVR L7 with AT&T for my 2005 X5 which just had the TCU/Assist module replaced under warranty (the new module is dated April 1, 2007). The phone seems to pair with the car via bluetooth but (as I am discovering is pretty common) the phonebook never loads; it just hangs during the loading process. The phone has the most recent software loaded on it which is even a more recent version than BMW specifies on their website. Has anyone solved this problem?

FWIW, my Blackberry 8830 with verizon pairs beautifully, phonebook and all. The nav display even shows "Blackberry 8830."

make sure there are no strange characters in the phone directory. Some phones do not send the phonebook properly if the phone directory has other than 1-0 or A-Z in the phonebook

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems with your Motorola SLVR L7. Unfortunately, I can't help but would be interested in hearing if you do get it resolved.

I am getting 3 new cell phones this week (different models) that are supposedly compatible with the 2008 X5. My BlackBerry 8800 is already on the compatible list. One of the new phones, that I'm getting, is a Motorola SLVR L7.

Thanks for the advice. There are no strange characters present, and I only have 15 numbers programmed in it at the moment. I tried moving some numbers from the Phone memory to the SIM card in the hope that it would make a difference, but no luck. It's just stuck on "Loading Phonebook" !

From experience with an older Blackberry (and now an 8830) I'd guess that updated phone software would fix the problem, but since the SLVR L7 isn't being sold by Motorola anymore I would be surprised if they released any software updates for it beyond what is currently out. The frustrating part is that the BMW website specifies a much older version of the software for the phone to be compatible.

BTW, in case anyone doesn't know it yet, the new company / website that is handling cell phone compatibility for BW (www.wireless4bmw.com) is nothing short of worthless. The reps have little knowledge of just about anything relating to BMW, phones, bluetooth, etc. It really is a shame that BMW has dropped the ball on this one (at least in my opinion).
