On this forum's home page, number 1 under the section on Electronics is a whole listing of info on Bluetooth in the X5.

I don't know if its going to solve the problem, but when you troubleshoot something, you have to start somewhere. Not having an antenna would be my first thing to get. Once you then have the complete system, then troubleshoot the next problem.

(I mean system, as in the whole thing, the other thing to check is, do you have a mic? do you have a phone cradle? etc etc)

i put the antenna and i now telephone come up on my navi screen. but i can not link it to my phone. i do not have a snap in tray. do i need one? or is a snap in tray for charging the phone. i know i have a microphone because i accidently hit emergency and the SOS buttone started to flash, a lady started to talk to me and we had a conversation. so i dont have to worry about a microphone. i now need a phone that is compatible with the unit and then need to link it.

yep, thats the next step. You need the tray, as that has the pairing button. It can be any phone, you just need the tray. If you can get a tray that suits your phone, even better.
