Stereo Question

Just wondering if anyone can help me with this?

Does the standard X5 stereo (6speaker) run an amplifier? I have installed an alpine amp & 10" sub (in a sealed 20+ ltr enclosure) and all I have to do now is pick up the inputs. I was going to go off the connecters to the rears doors inside the B pillars and run them to the rear (amp has high level inputs) but if anyone know an easier way it would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to find an easyplace to pick up my input signal.

I'll posts pic's of the sub enclosure/amp mounting when I get the X back from the dealer post the airbag going off in my driveway. By the way, would you believe that they wouldn't even give me a courtesy car whilst mine is being fixed. I even rang BMW Australia and still no joy!

Cheers Matt

Yes there is an amp. It is located in the rear compartment down below where the CD changer is (or would be) mounted.

Here's an idea of what it looks like

Jeff he might be overseas....and if so they get a lower 'standard' stereo in the X5 which I do not believe has a built in amplifier.

toptoy where are you located? Across the pond?

Chris,

No not as far as I know, it's listed as a six speaker system, each door and two in the dash. Although there are tweater grills in the usual place on the front doors, but i dodn't know if there is anything in'em.

Interesting that that you guys have the amp as standard. Makes me wonder as I wouldn't think they woud change all the wiring for Australian cars.

Cheers Matt

Hi Matt,

Well when you have just a frame at the factory they put in whatever wiring harness you ordered depending upon the options. I think a long time ago car manufacturers used to use a "one size fits all" harness, however they wanted to save weight and save $$$, so I guess there must be a benefit to using various harnesses depending upon options.

I'm going to guess the wiring you are looking for is right behind your radios dash. Any chance you know of any good car stereo shops in your area? I don't think any of us want to point you in the wrong direction as far as what wires to tap. You will also need an 'line level converter' that will take the radios signal and convert it to low voltage for your amplifier.

Sorry we could not be of further help.
