DashCams - Anyone using them?

So I was surprised a search turned up a single thread about an E70 driver who was broadsided and it was caught on his dash cam..

I imagine there are more than one user here using a dash cam, so either my search skills suck, or no one is talking about it..

So I was hoping to open a discussion..
  • What are you using..
  • How have you mounted it (everyone loves pictures)..
  • How do you like it (is it user friendly, how is the video quality)..
  • Have you ever had the need to use footage, and did it provide the evidence you needed if so?

Anything else you want to ad..

Please post and update us with pictures!

I'm planning on adding an android headunit to my E53, and would love any info you can provide and anything you may not like about that particular dashcam unit.

I just upgraded my X5 e70 3.5d to an AVINUSA 10.25” Android 8.1 with an aftermarket reverse camera and it works a treat. It is not that difficult to DIY.

Happy to advice if you need help.

I have a Garmin Dashcam 55 mounted in my other car (Toyota hilux) with the standard mounting kit and hardwired into the acc circuit.

The Garmin 55 is a fabulous little unit. Using a 64gb microSD card, it records about 15 to 20hr of footage, which is great for recording my overlanding trips here in Australia.

I've looked at other dashcams but I think I'll be getting another Garmin 55 for my E53

Great.. thx man.. I just ordered mine from AliExpress.. should arrive within 2 weeks including gps antenna splitter from a different seller..
I am planning to use the AV out to the oem RSE in the back..
the question is.. any split screen options in the 8.1? To send one of screen to kids in the back and use nav/audio for front ? Or is it just a mirror from the front to the back!
