6 CD changer - which one for my X5 w/NAV and DSP?

I want to install a 6 CD changer in my X5. It currently has a cassette player under the NAV, and it has DSP.

Can someone tell me the correct part number for the changer that I need to mount in the back? I tried deciphering this myself via all the helpful docs on this site, but I just got more confused.

The CD changers for all X5's (and basically all i-bus based BMW's) should be interchangable, regardless of whether or not you have nav or DSP.

There are special brackets that mount the CD changer in the back of an X5. These can be bought separate from the CD changer as well.

I just want to be sure all CD changers have the fittings to accept either the 6 pin or coaxail cable.

One last note:

Some of the information I'm finding about the Alpine 6 CD changer (part number 82 11 1 469 404) says it won't work with DSP. Is that true?

Hi, I have just taken mine out of my X5 with Sat Nav and DSP and put it on ebay. There are a couple of days left to run. My X5 was registered Nov 2005 and the CD changer was built June 2005. The part number is 65.12-6 946 990-01.

Thanks for pointing it out. Any idea why the part number is completely different from the standard cd changers?

What model year is your X5? On my '04, the DSP does not use the coax cable for the CD changer. It only uses the 6 pin wire harness, so it didn't need any special coax cable. I bought my changer from Bavarian Autosport. I also bought the mounting kit from them too. Maybe not the cheapest seller, but their prices and service have always been good IMO.

I've just given you the number on the back. Maybe this is the serial number?? I bought the car from new, took delivery of it on November 11th 2005. The CD changer was factory fitted and cost me £210.00. It is listed as code 672 on my original order.
