Playing MP3s on a FACTORY BMW CD changer
This thing ROCKS! When you go past 99 songs. 99 is shown as 1-99, 100 is marked as 1- and then 101 goes to 1-01. I guess this is because my radio only knows of a possible 99 tracks. It is interesting that it plays over 100 tracks and restarts the number. ![]() ![]() ![]() Martin |

Looks good, how do the MP3's sound?
I'm thinking of the getting one but was toying with the idea of getting the Alpine jobbie - what influenced your decision to get this changer over the Alpine? You wouldn't have the part number by any chance? Did you get it from a dealer? Cheers Martin! |

Whats even more exciting is that apparently not only will it play MP3s, but it will also display the ID3 tags as well ... all on the NAV display.
However (yes theres always one of those isn't the) ... right now this has only being verified on 2006 BM54 European NAV Radio, and not the USA BM53 Radio ! So we need someone with a MY 2006 Vehicle to pop one of these new MP3 enabled changers into the vehicle and see if they get the new AUDIOTEXT option after pressing the INFO button. If you do, and you enable it ... you should see ID3 text info ... how exciting is that ... If thats the case, then the NAV Radio Tuner received a firmware update for MY 2006 to accomodate ID3 tag display. Heres some screen shots showing the new feature in action on a BM54 NAV System courtesy of one of our friends over in Germany. With a NAV Radio Tuner that can accomodate ID3 tags ... does this mean that we will finally see a BMW OEM Ipod Interface for NAV systems with ID3 tags .... who knows ... !! Well I'm totally confused on what to get now.
I have the latest BM54 radio unit which supports MP3 text, etc. but don't know whether I should be getting this new BMW OEM MP3 changer or the Alpine one. Is there even any difference between them? I think I need an M-bus interface if I get the Alpine, so it may be better just to get the BMW OEM changer for a direct connection. Having said all that, is there anyway of getting an BMW OEM changer from the net, or is it a trip to the dealers parts department? My ruddy head hurts

I guess it will come down to price ! I would go oem if poss .If it does work I will get one too. I might be able to get you a little discount on the changer as my mate works for a BMW dealer.
