ice link plus installation

hello,,

i need ur help guys,today i was trying to install the icelink plus in my 04 X5,i removed the factory cd changer,unplugged it and stopped ,the plugs cant be connected to the icelink,as i got two large multiwired connectors (the icelink),so i am confused,can anyone help???

What kind of connectors did you take off of the back of the CD changer? One for sure would have been a three pin connector (12V, ground and i-bus). The other will either be a 6 pin connector or a coaxial cable. If one of them was a coaxial cable then you are going to need the DSP adaptor. Tom G. can set you up with what you need.

well,there was 3 pin and 6 pin connections,but the icelink cable in so thick with cables and i cant find were to put,i looked at the DIY for ice link but the conection is very different,i think it is called aquadlock(from the installation guide of the icelink)so any ideas?

The Quadlock cable is the interface to the car.

I had mine professionally installed and have a 4m extension cable that runs from the BMW adapter to to the rear, and then connects into the Quadlock cable and connectors somewhere by the battery. You can't simply connect into the CD multichanger (as I'd also hoped you could).

I have the Pro Nav kit, plus Pro Bluetooth phone. The installer had to remove the spare wheel, air suspension compressor and several other bits to get access to the relevant modules by the battery. He then had to change various wires in the OEM Quadlock plug to allow connection and correct functionality. I'm sorry to say that having seen what needed to be done I was happy to pay someone £50-00 for the two hours it took him to finish it.

In the US, a connection is made to the 3 and 6 pin connector. In Europe, the quadlock interface (on the radio module) is used.

I haven't had time to make the install instructions for the Radio interface kits yet - and the Dension ones are horrible. This may help a bit, the procedures will be the same for your Business Cassette

1) Remove Volume Knob. Insert small torx wrench and turn counterclockwise to release retaining hinge and swing outwards to remove the MID.




2) Remove MID.




3) Unplug harness from MID and set aside so it will not get damaged.




4) Once the MID is removed, this will expose 2 allen screws that will need to be loosened.




5) Remove screws with proper allen tool




6) Once screws are loosened, remove CD/Cassette Unit




7) Shot of R40 Quadlock connector on right, this will need to be removed by lifting up on the release latch.




8) Rear shot of R40 Quadlock connector, the plug on the bottom left is CD Audio




9) Lift on release latch and remove Quadlock connector to remove radio, don;t forget to remove the antenna cable as well.




10) Shot of dash opening without radio




11) Connect ice>Link Plus wiring harness to BMW side of radio harness, making sure it is firmly fastened. Confirm by locking down release latch.




12) Connect other side of ice>Link wiring harness to radio. Confirm by locking down release latch.




13) Insert ice>Link Audio port to bottom left hand side of R40 connector.



That's pretty much it! Connect ice>Link module and cradle and reverse above steps to reinstall.

Dension overseas seems to sell only radio interface kits, not trunk interface kits. Rewiring of the radio interface kit is needed if you have Navigation or else the BT and NAV voice prompts will not be in operation.
