Handsfree and new speakers

Hi guys

Factory phone handsfree option is connected to fwd door speakers via an extra set of prongs on the speaker elements. After upgrading to BSW stage 1, this connection is left over and handsfree function is gone. Although I dont use the phone, I want it to work, since it's installed.
Anyone got an idea on how to solve this?

Hi,

I did the BSW speaker upgrade on my Euro X -2005, I did not have this connection for my hands free. Whats your set-up?

Have you any pics?

Having said all that surely all you have to do is double up on the BSW connectors or even piggy back the wiring?

Since I dont know how the system is connected, I'm a bit afraid just to piggyback the wiring.

Before I changed the speakers, the music was muted when using the handsfree and came back again when you hang up, so some kind of connection exists. The two extra wires was going through the four pin plastic plug, inside the door, to separate connectors on the speakers and even on to separate connections to the speaker papercone!
Sorry I dont have any pics.

PeteM....how does your handsfree work, and where does the sound come from when using it? Any change after the BSW mod?

Yes mines the same mutes when making and recieving calls. Sounds from front speakers controlled using volume on head unit.

I had no change to my hands free and just plugged the connector in I did not see what your describing when I did it so it must be different but what I would do is cut the connectors that attached to the speaker prongs and fit the wires to the new speaker prongs sharing them with the speaker wiring. This would solve the sound or lack of it. I reckon that will work because I fitted my tweeters in the same way as I didnt have them before, I now get sound through both speakers now.

I think I found something on online WDS. On cars up to 2001_09, with this mod, you'll see separate signals from stereo amp and telephone amp, 4 wires in all, as in mine.
From 2002_03 phone signals goes through stereo amp and from there the normal 2 wires to the speaker. Thats why you didn't noticed any changes on your X5.

Connecting the wires as you suggest is not a good solution, you'll probably end up with a bursted telephone amp.
Maybe the only solution is to fit an extra speaker somewhere hidden away or is there some easy way to separate these to circuits?

I dont see how the piggy back would be adverse as all you are doing is sharing a connector on the speaker rather than having two connectors as before plus the loading on the amp would be as before, but its your motor and your decision.

You could try using the tweeters in the upper doors as the stand alone phone speakers as an alternative or just the one on the drivers side perhaps
