low volume from aux in

The volume level from the aux input cable I just installed is very low. I know that the 1-6 buttons change the gain, but even at 6 the volume is lower than any of the other sources. This is with the mp3 player volume all the way up, which sounds even worse because it is clipping. In reading all about the aux input, I've never seen this problem talked about before. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do?

Don't take this the wrong way, but you need to throw away your MP3 player and buy an iPod. This will solve your problems and your sound will be better than XM. Borrow someone's and try it out. ..

Do you mean use an Ipod over aux in or through something like DICE? I know that an Ipod integration kit will sound great with DICE, but that's not in the works for now.

do you have an IPOD?

if so there is a kit you need to buy. Its like 20 bucks

You connect it from the bottom to the auxilary input. What you are doing is connecting it from the headphone into the auxilary input.

It will sound perfect if you do that.

Its supposed to look like that connected to the aux.

As to where you buy it I have no idea. I know Belkin makes it. Search google for it.

Unhappy

I don't have an Ipod yet, but even if I did, I'd probably go for full integration anyways. Thanks for the suggestion though, I didn't know they even made something like that...and if it's really $20, it's even cheaper than this aux cable. I went with aux just so that laptops, etc could be plugged in too, but are they all pretty much going to sound like crap with this cable? Things sounded better with my cassette adapter!

If you connect any mp3 player that way (from bottom not headphone jack) it will sound as if you have a CD in. However I have yet to see another mp3 player connect that way.

The DICE is for steering wheel controls and folder/organization via navigation/mid unit.
If you don't care about that stuff don't waste your money.

Also, on the BMW aux in if you choose the different radio buttons (i.e. hit buttons 1-6) there are different amplification settings, 1 has almost none, and 6 has the most. So if you are having volume issues just hit 4,5, or 6.
