Thumbs down 2001 Aftermarket Head Unit

I have an '01 X5, and want to add an aftermarket head unit with touch screen navigation. Any idea on what direction I should go? Need help finding a bezel to work with it too.

Criteria:
Touch screen Navigation, DVD enabled, iPod enabled, and Bluetooth. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few people who have done this - do a search for "AVIC" and you should find the info you need.

How does your car run after 100,000 miles? I am very interested in this because I am going to be there soon (2 years) and I am trying to figure out whether I want to add a $2500 mod (AVIC-Z1)...but it might not be worth it considering I might need to get a new ride.

Running great!!! Only thing I am waiting on now is the tranny going out in the next 30-40K miles. But otherwise she is still pulling hard - I surprise a lot of people when taking off at a red light and leaving them in my "family" vehicle.

A buddy of mine also has as Eclipse head unit and loves it - it has dual DVD players built in so you can run the nav DVD and play music at the same time. Of course if you buy one with a HDD, you don' need the dual DVD.

Do you have Bluetooth?

In regards to the bezel...go with http://www.mybimmer.net/

AVIC-Z1 by Pioneer sounds like the system for you. I am about to do this mod myself. Should cost anywhere between $2000-$3000 depending on installer, where you get the parts and what not. Circuit City quoted me at $3800, which is crazy.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Just Curious

How much does this aftermarket nav setup from Pioneer cost with the bezel and full installation?

I would guess around $2500? I am considering it instead of a Garmin unit, but the cost may justify going with a Garmin

Talking Costs

I've been doing some checking, and it looks like the unit with everything that I need (bezel from www.mybimmer.net, Sirius tuner, iPod hookup, and bluetooth) should cost right about $2200. Cosider this: you get more than just the nav part, and if you install it yourself, you get a really sweet custom install.

Also, one very minor mod and you get the full touch screen access through an on off switch so that you can stay "legal" in states that prohibit some types of mods.

Another cool addition would be the rear camera...but I haven't decided if I want that. Plus, the Pioneer
