DSP Specification?

2001 DSP

Can someone tell me the specifications?

All I know is it has 10 speakers

There are not a lot of detailed technical specification available for the DSP amp (like Total Harmonic Distortion, etc.), but here are the basics. It is actually a 14 channel system, and I think that you have 14 speakers in your X5. (The E39, by comparison, has only 12 speakers, but that is because it only has two subwoofers that are dual voice coil.)

One key thing about the DSP system is that there are no passive crossovers (in general). The amp has 14 independent single-channel amps that have crossover and equalization control in an internal pre-amp section that feeds the channel amps.

* 4 Tweeter outputs at 15 Watts each
* 2 Mid-range outputs at 15 Watts each
* 4 Woofers outputs at 30 Watts each
* 4 Subwoofer outputs at 30 Watts each

In addition, the DSP amp has the 7 band graphic equalizer with space simulation (space size, echo), speed-dependent equalizing, volume-dependent equalizing, and speed-dependent dynamic compression.

Also, until 2002, the CD changer feeds its audio output directly to the DSP amp, bypassing the radio entirely, through a pure digital SPDIF coax cable.

I dont think I have 14. I believe I have 12.

I only have 2 subs in the back. where would the other 2 be?

Your's is probably the same as the E39. The E39 has dual voice coil sub speakers, so each speaker uses 2 channels of input from the DSP amp, insead of single-channel speakers like on the E38.

You could confirm it by looking at the plug on the sub box, or pulling out a speaker and looking at its connections. If the plug into the sub box has 8 wires, or an individual speaker has 4 wires connected, then the X5 subs probably have the dual voice coil speakers.
