Cool Anybody tried Infinity Kappa 60.7 in doors?

After some extended listening, I find myself wanting more bass from my setup of 4, 5-1/4" midbass drivers. Vocal clarity is better than the stock system, but overall there's little punch, and its not a system that begs you to crank the volume. I don't want to replace the factory head unit and amp and rewire the entire car (did that on my 325i already, what a chore) so I'm hoping that having 6" drivers at the doors will give me a sound I'm happier with. The two problems I see-- and please someone correct me if I'm wrong-- (1) the door enclosures are 6.25" in diameter as I measure, precluding the use of 6.5" or 6.75" replacement drivers. (2) the stock drivers are 2 ohm rated, while most car audio replacements are 4 ohm, effectively cutting your amp's power in half. SOOOO.... Infinity's Kappa 6.07cs component speaker that mounts in a 6" location and 2 ohm resistance. Seems to solve both issues. Anybody try it, or will I be the first??

I think you're on the right track. We haven't tested those Inifinity drivers for fit or performance in that vehicle, so I can't speak to how they'll sound, specs wise they seem to be a decent fit. I'm sure lot's of folks here would like to know how they sound.

That said, I think the bigger question is what type of bass response you feel is missing. If it's midbass (higher bass guitar notes, tom drums, etc.) you think is missing, pursure a different speaker solution. However, if you think it's lower bass frequency (low bass guitar notes, kick drums, hip hop beats, etc.), you really need to consider a subwoofer solution of some kind. It might be both, too.

The right subwoofer (sealed enclosure) will allow you to have more of both, but if you ask a subwoofer to play midbass, you'll move the image rearward, but it might be worth it for you to have a simple solution. Consider our xh108 system. This system can be tuned to play into the midbass range in addition to the sub bass range. Here's a link

There are a fair number of components that are closer to 6", Polk Audio, Diamond Audio, the Infinitys, certain JL's, etc.. Question is...are you willing to drop $200 just to use the midbass speakers? Not to mention, even at 2 ohms, the stock amp lacks the power to get the full potential from aftermarket speakers.

I replaced my door speakers with Diamond Audio D3 comps. The 6.5" are small enough to fit. It sounds noticeably better, but I am left wondering how much better it would sound with some proper amp power.

I've looked at the D3's. Any other models from the brands you mentioned?

The Polk Audio db6500's, most infinitys, most alpines, JL TR and VR. Search the manufacturers sites. I can tell you this; anything with a diameter above 162 mm will not fit in the stock baffle.
