trouble installing amp
i got the power to work but i didn't get any sound when i tapped in. i'm using a hi/low converter and that has 3 sets of wire. 2 white, 2 grey, and a black one. i'm wondering if u stick the 2 whites together in the same connter 2 greys. or if u mix it or what. or if i don't use the hi low converter at all and just cut my rca wire and just use my rca wire |

Where did you "tap in"? Before or after the amplifier?
If you tapped in before the amplifier you won't get anything since the signal is digital. If you tapped in after then which specific wires did you tap? There are an awful lot... d- |

The physical method you used to tap into the signal is just fine. Off the top of my head I don't know what 14 and 7 are, but I'll assume they are one channel of signal from radio to amp.
The problem you have is that you have a DIGITAL signal processing (DSP) unit. In these units the radio outputs a digital signal, not an analog one, to the amplifier. Any attempt to tap into this signal will be unsuccessful. You basically have 2 courses to follow: tap into a signal after the amp and use JL Cleansweeps (or the like) to re-assemble the signal OR remove the DSP amplifier and have your radio revert back to analog. You'll lose DSP, but gain an analog output. d- |

What type of connector do you have? Did you compare the connector to the one showed in the article below? http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...ctory-amp.html
If you have the same connector then 7 and 14 are one of the 2 channels for the stock sub. Your connections to 7 and 14 may be loose. One easy way to know if your connections are good is to try to connect the 2 wires you tapped into 7 and 14 to your subwoofer speaker and see if it moves the speaker driver. What type of sub amp are you using? Does it has both high level and low level inputs? If it has high level inputs you do not need a converter. If it only has low level inputs then you will need to convert the signal out of 7 and 14 to low level. If you connected directly the 7 and 14 to feed your amp thru its low level inputs you may have blown it which would explain why do not get any sound. |
