Nakamichi CD Changer Operation Instructions

I have an E38 7 Series, but I upgraded the audio and navigation to the equivalent of a late X5 (new gen radio, 16x9 screen, MKIV DVD navigation, DSP, etc.). I just installed the BMW/Nakamichi glove box CD changer, and it works great. The only problem is that I did not get any instructions with it (eBay purchase), and it does one quirky thing that I can not figure out.

If I am listening to a CD, and I switch to FM, the CD changer will not resume playing when I switch back to CD. It does the same thing if I am listening to a CD and I turn the radio off and back on-- it will not resume CD play. However, if I switch the car off, the CD will resume play when I restart the car. Is this normal? Has anyone else seen this?

My X with Nakamichi does not do this.
Your situation doesnt sounds right to me.

Off hand, do you know what type of radio you have? Is it a "new gen" navigation radio with the aux input? (That is what I have in mine.)

It sounds almost like the radio doesn't completely recognize that the Nakamichi CD player is there. You might want to try disconnecting the battery for a period of time, which has the effect of resetting the system. Just a thought....

I think think that I will give the full power reset a try. I am glad to hear from Scotty's post that my behavior is not normal. Now I just need to figure out if the radio is compatible with the Nak unit, and if there is some silver bullet configuration trick.

This trick may also sync up your radio module with the CD changer. Note that if you do this it will put your nav unit into yards rather than feet (but you will no longer have the accept screen to mess with

)

Well I have 'non-DSP' standard issue for 2000 with nav.
(no aux input)

Did the earlier X5s ever come with the "old Gen" board monitor radios (in nav equipped cars) that had 10-pin audio input plugs instead of the 12-pin plugs on the new gen radio? The reason I ask is that the long audio extension cable I got terminated in the 10 pin connector, but I expected to see the 12-pin connector of the more modern radios.

Thanks, this helps. I am wondering now if I could have a compatibility issue between the new gen radio that I have and the Nak unit.
