Confusion...

Here is what I have on my disk:

Subfolder1: 18 files @192 kbit --> Plays 100% ok
Subfolder2: 11 files @192 kbit --> None of them plays, player skips all files
Subfolder3: 11 files @227 kbit --> Plays 100% ok
Subfolder4: 11 files @192 kbit --> Plays 100% ok
Subfolder5: 13 files @320 kbit --> Plays 100% ok
Subfolder6: 12 files @223 kbit --> None of them plays, player skips all files
Subfolder7: 33 files @192 kbit --> Plays 100% ok

After reading this post I got excited and burned myself a MP3 disc with no subfolder off i Tunes and all i got was a hissing noise with computer noise a bit like when you used to load programs from a tape recorder back in the 80's I could not change trackers either

My car is a 05 car

Just one other idea what about the disc you got to work up load it some where so we can all download it to make sure we are all getting the music the same way?

So I installed a software on my computer to see what the files have behind them. My guess is that there is some information missing in the files --> cd player does not recognize the file or format. Attached two images with file properties. The Corrs one is working properly in BMW Business CD, the other one with a weird file name is not functional. As you can see the bitrate, encoder and some other information is not stored in the file.

Could this be the reason? What I can try to do is to re-encode the one not functioning to see if it makes a difference...

Another interesting founding was that the folders with 227 kbit and 223 kbit encoding are encoded with variable bit rate. Those are the average bit rates. And the other folder is functioning properly so BMW player is capable of playing VBR files. The reason why the later one in the list is not functional is again missing file information.

X5 Sport:
Did your player actually play the file (with not that great results) or did it only skip the file? One way of looking what information is stored with the file is to
download dbPowerAmp music converter. Install it. After installation, point your mouse on top of MP3 file and the light yellow tag will appear with file information.

My X5 happens as yours.It can play MP3 files with the normal speed as play a normal CD track, but output the White noise. That seems the CD changer has not Mp3 decoder inside, so does not support MP3.

CD changers with 9/05 and up production have mp3 playback capabilities.
