2002 aux-in

First, it's an X5 3.0, 2001, no dsp or nav or cd changer.

I've been doing some searching and basically found to get an aux in I'd need to replace the radio unit in the trunk with one from 2003 or newer and that could run $250. I don't want to spend that much and I'd be afraid of breaking something.

I actually e-mailed BMW to ask about aux-in and they said no, but I can get the iPod adapter. It looks around $150. Thing is, I have a Neuros 2 (and like it, though it's not made anymore), not an iPod. I'm sure you could mod it to work with anything, but that's not worth it for me.

Are there any options I don't see besides its (the Neuros's) built-in FM transmitter? It's not that bad, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thanks, this is a great resource!

Hi Nate, :welcome: to X5world.

For a 2002 X5 without nav you actualy don't need to replace the radio module. Rather, you need to replace the CD unit mounted above the radio (which actually has the brains and radio tuner). You might try keeping an eye on eBay and finding a newer unit to replace yours that will give you AUX.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for quick reply pointing that out.
Edit: Did some searching and found this... $325 is too high for me. I assume this is what I need.

That is the right one. I purchased one for my 3.0 x5 and it worked great. Christy BMW is highly recommended.

Consider what your "net" cost will be. You will likely be able to sell your current CD unit on eBay for over $200 (and if you are lucky even close to what you'll pay for that one - see http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-Business-CD-...QQcmdZViewItem for an example of someone getting $299 for their used one), so it's not as expensive as you may be thinking.

That's crazy. I guess these really are hard to find... I would think not very many people would want them that didn't get them with the car or just get an aftermarket unit. Seeing as that apparantly has no aux in, so an upgrade to it would be pointless. Guess I thought wrong

What about installation and tools? I have no experience with car stereos and little overall hardware experience; I assume somewhere like Best Buy would install it and any idea how much?

Other options are still welcome as I'm nowhere near set on doing this yet .
