Lightbulb Audio Configuration Help

Ok fellow X5 owners, I have a burning question to ask. I am not that happy with the bass in my X5. I want to add a larger sub. The guys at the car audio shop tell me to add a sub I must upgrade my doors because they are pretty weak also. I would love opinions on upgrading the door speakers as well or just adding the sub. Below is what I have going in.

MB Quart RAA2400 Amplifier
MB Quart PWE304 Sub 12”
Ipod
IceLink

Proposed Door Speakers

MB Quart RCE 216
MB 4CH Amp

PS. Any suggestions on the door speakers would be appreciated. Also, I have the DSP system.

Thanks

WOW. That is alot of info. So I guess just adding the sub is where I should stop if I don't want a major job. Could you give me a complete equipment list if I was to revamp the hole car?

Sure.

In light of info being floated by another forum member at this time, though, I want to say that much of that work MIGHT be able to be avoided.

The shop you're working with - do they have an audio analyzer or an oscilloscope? If they do, and they're willing to spend a little time testing, you might be able to perform a far more direct solution that I used.

They would need to insert a test disc with a sine wave, measure the preamp signal wires at the OEM amp (they are listed here somewhere), make sure that they find the set that stay the same voltage regardless of volume setting. Then disconnect the amp, then disconnect your battery for a while, then reconnect it, and retest the wires. If they now vary with volume, you have solved a big problem and only need an amp with balanced inputs or a balanced adapter such as a Soundgate LOCB.2 or a Peripheral SVEN.

If they have questions, they can email or call me. kenw at avincar dot com. 503 222 1305 .
