After having used the DICE unit for several weeks I ended up flipping the dip switches to control the iPOD directly vs. using the stereo controls on the steering wheel and head unit to control the iPOD; here's why:
- controlling from the steering wheel is slow! Annoying lag in communications (and even mentioned in the documentation).
- If you're in album mode and you switch to artist mode, it starts at the beginning of your artist list, so after hearing the beginning of the same song after several weeks I switched to using the iPOD to control. Sounds confusing, but what I'm trying to say is that when you switch search modes, it always starts at the beginning of whatever mode you select, and it automatically begins the first song. In my case, the first artist in my list is Aracade. So, if I wanted to listen to RUSH, I would select artist and while I was drilling down to find RUSH, Arcade's first song would start. This gets old real quick.
The only thing you lose by controlling directly from the iPOD is having the song title go across the display under the speedometer. No biggie to me; it only displayed it for 15 seconds anyone. By usign the iPOD to control and select songs, you can find what you're looking for MUCH faster, and you can use shuffle.
Oh, and you can still go forward/backward with the steering wheel controls even when you default control to the iPOD.
As for those still thinking about installing it, go for it. It's so easy you'll laugh when finished. Seriously.
