DSP has a different amp, a dual subs in the trunk and an additional menu on the monitor to adjust sound settings ..
I beleive the other 10 speakers are different than the non-DSP, but I am not sure. More info here http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...ve-dsp-x5.html

The quick answer is more power, more speakers, and more audio control.
The DSP amp has 14 channel outputs. The X5 with DSP has 12 speakers. There are 3 speakers in each front door, two speakers in each rear door, and two dual-coil subwoofer speakers in the trunk. The amp puts out about 330W total power. The control for the DSP amp gives you a graphic equalizer plus room size & echo settings. It is a big jump up from the standard stereo system. You can do better with an aftermarket setup, but it will cost a ton more money to get the performance and integration with the car. A few folks have done upgrade projects. It is not that bad, if you are comfortable doing auto audio projects.

aaah alright. so if it's a "big jump up from the standard stereo system" than do you think it's worth the time/money to upgrade? how much do u think it would cost? (it's a 2005 x5 with navigation)

Well, you can get the DSP amp for under $200 from eBay. Then, you can scrounge up the three DSP plugs from either a dealer or maybe even eBay with the amp. You can probably get an X5 subwoofer box on eBay for under $100, or you could do an aftermarket powered sub like the Infiniti Basslink.
I would upgrade the main spekers too, even though it is not entirely necessary. (The DSP system does come with upgraded speakers compared to the standard system.) You could get something like Bavarian Soundwurks speakers. All together, you could probaby piece it together for $500 - $700.
