Stereo display unit going out....

I have a 2006 X5 3.0 no nav stereo diplay unit. Last night I was driving listening to the stereo, when all of the sudden, the stereo display unit just went out and no more sound...... I tried all the buttons on the display unit and nothing worked. I kept driving like that until I got to the place I was going. After a few hours I came back turned on the X5 and the stereo and display unit were now working fine.... . I wasn't going far that night so I worked fine until I got home. This morning it did it again.... after driving for about 15-20 minutes the stereo and the display unit went out again. If I turn off the truck for a few hours and then on again the stereo comes up working fine, but after a while it quits and turns off... what could be causing this??? I did install the Aux input about a month a half ago but you would think if this was the cause it would happen right after i did this install.... Anybody has any ideas on this?? Any help would be appreciated. I'm still under warranty so I can take it to the dealer and probably will..... Thanks,

I would unplug the AUX cable from the stereo. It might not be the AUX install, but a wire that was cut or pulled during the install thats shorting or not making good contact.

Well, I took my X5 to the dealer last week as I am still under warranty. They found that the stereo was malfunctioning (could not find the exact root of the problem) and they replaced it with a new one. It now works fine and no problems. All work was done under warranty....
