Are the speaker sets somehow matched (impedance, freq response) with BMW original amplifier? How well do they perform when used with after-market amplifier?

What is the best description on the overall difference from stock non-dsp on an e53 to the stage 1 upgrade. I am interested in an audio upgrade but I have experienced in other cars with speaker upgrades that the high ends get a little to pingy and blasty. Is the stage 1 speaker upgrade a good overall sound that provides crisp highs and lows? I am aware that it is not going to be a bass machine but how would the bass stage 1 puts out compare to stock. I don't think stock is junk but it definitely is not crisp.

I have a 2005 non-dsp w/nav w/ BSW Stage 1 speaker upgrade (Feb 2009) and BSW Sub upgrade.
I love the sound of the system compared to the OEM setup. I added the sub after having the speakers for a few months as I did want some more bass, not necessarily an issue with BSW speakers, I just always wanted more bass.

I would definitely recommend the setup, everything is so crisp and not muddled. I can hear cymbols and other sounds I couldn't hear before that had just gotten muddy and drowned out with the old setup. I think if you have the money, go for the upgrade, plus Halston and everyone at BSW are very helpful.

Thanks for the response!! How was the bass and overall sound with just speaker upgrade, no sub upgrade? Does it have a balanced sound and not pingy on the high end notes? It seems like this system is real nice and couldn't be anything else but awesome. I am just curious how big of a difference there is between stock and just speaker upgrade. And then stock vs speaker and sub upgrade? Trying to decide if I should just do it all at once? It sounds like ultimately if I get the setup im gonna want the sub as well not because there is necessarily a deficit but because it would probably make it that much better.

It still sounded good, not pingy or anything, I just liked having more bass, as I listen to a wide variety of music and like sometimes to have a bit of bump. It's a really good sound setup, it's not gonna rattle the neighborhood, but with the windows up and turned up loud, it sounds really really good.

If I were you, I'd get it all at once and do the install in a day. The speaker upgrade takes longer than the sub, but might as well do it in one shot.
