Icelink bummer, NAV, etc.....

Hi folks...
Just installed my new icelink. Navigation is a bumout just like Apple's lame "iPod your BMW" junk. No offense Tom, your service was excelent, im just dissapointed. Sound quality is great, i just wish someone, (Mainly OEM MFG's) would make a real iPod interface with controls that dont require you to nearly pull over to scroll through the menus!
Anyone else bummed at this? I made playlists, etc, but i have thousands of songs, 5 playlists arent nearly enough. The Combo NT and FF to navigate is just confusing. Having to explain the proccess to every passenger that may want to find a song is gonna get old FAST. "HOLD the button then CLICK the button, OOPS it switched out of Disk 6, ok pick Disk 6, then HOLD...blahblah etc"

At MAC expo last year Clarion made a touchscreen FULLy integrated iPod ready unit. Anyone used it?? It was as if the ipod scroll wheel and menu were onscreen.

Sorry to vent, just frustrated at half-asses attempts at companies getting this right. Is Apple making it impossible buy not releasing code for a proper interface??? ArrrGGGG!
PS: The Ice>Link does work, and sounds good, i know we're lucky to have any ipod options at all, just ARRRGGG!! you know.....

While it would be nice to have something closer to the native iPod menu replicated on the nav screen with better controls, the iceLink is hands down the best solution that is on the market today for integration in a BMW.

Given the strides that Dension has made in a relatively short period of time, I am cautiously optimistic that we'll continue to see some improvements down the road.

Tom indicated on an earlier post that there is a firmware upgrade on the way early next week that has some changes that will impress us. No specifics mentioned but he has been good to his word so far.

We're releasing some other stuff for NAV, unrelated to ice>Link.

I use firmware 2b2 and have no issues going through my playlists. I have about 20 active at any one time, I scroll through them with my steering wheel controls. I just hit selection 6, push down on the steering wheel to get to playlist, press and hold to get the list. I have got it down so I don't even look at the nav other than picking the playlist I want. My library is about 7000 songs. My only annoyance is not being able to control shuffle. There is no question that this is currently the best solution hands down.

I am constantly amazed at the quality of the sound, clearly better than my CD changer was.

I am glad to hear that an upgrade is coming, there is clearly room for improvement, but 2b2 is useable.

I also remember on here that Tom said that there was a new product coming out where you could keep your cd changer and use the Ice link together! Any more news on this?
