XM Installation - 2002

Ok, I'm thoroughly confused. I just bought a 2002 X5 3.0 and I'm looking to install the Pioneer XM Modulator unit (GEX-FM903XM). Have no idea what I need to make this happen. I see some kits that require a CD changer, but I don't have one. I probably just need some sort of antenna adapter that connects the modulator to the head unit. But what? And does the antenna really plug in to the CD player? This is my first BMW, so please disregard my ignorance. Help!!!

no problem.

welcome to the marque.

on models 2003 and older, you will see something called an aux input, which can be added.

in your case, this is not possible without changing or updating your radio.

what you need is an AUX input adapter. I assume you have the indash CD player based on your description.

You would benefit quick greatly by the following:

and to find the right adapter, i'd go here: http://logjamelectronics.com/

good luck.

ps the FM modulator plugs into the antenna, not CD player. Not a good idea IMHO as the signal is degraded. Using the blitzsafe adapter will allow you direct stereo input.

you need an antenna adapter that can be found easily in a good stereo shop, crutchfield, or any VW dealership...

Thanks for the information... Do I read correctly that the Blitzsafe adapter fits into the CD changer wiring? I don't have a CD changer, how do I tell if I have the wiring - 3 pin, 6 pin, etc...

Also, really like the possibility of getting a 2003+ head unit to make use of the Aux input. Nothing on ebay at the moment - any idea where else I can pick one up.

You have the wiring, even if you don't have the CD changer in the car.
