How to Fix ETA (arrival time) Issue
Since I flashed T26.09A onto my system the Arrival time has completely changed - for the worse! It calculates arrival times up to 200% wrong e.g. while driving on a slow road it now calculates the whole route as though it was driven at the slow speed, even when 95% on the journey will be on the motorway. It seems to just basically look at the distance in miles and calculate based on current speed - pretty useless! This definitely only occured after the V26 beta upgrade and has persisted even after going back to V24 then BMW release V26. I'm hypothesising that the way the sytem works out the arrival time in some way is linked to the user settings that are not wiped when the flash firmware upgrade is processed. This is similar to the way that the perspective 3D view persisted even when reflashing from the beta 26 to release 26. I've tried reflashing to V24 then V26. Unplugged fuses 7 and 41, disconnected the battery, but the address book and dodgy arrival time still persist. I guess it must be stored in NVRAM or has a seperate battery backup. Any ideas? I've just forked out $600 to get Dynamic Routing (BM54) and I can't see how it's going to work properly until this issue is resolved ![]() Ta Last edited by eaglesrest; 03-09-2006 at 03:39 PM. |

I always thought that arrival time was calculated
by ur current speed and the distance left to travel. ![]() ur arrival time will increase or decrease depending on speed. i'm not sure i follow how this is useless, but maybe i'm missing something.

Now the same 60 mile route is calculated as 145 minutes. Way off the actual travelling time. Once I reach the motorway it adjusts the time to a more realistic value but only based upon my current speed. The dynamic route planner takes TMC traffic incidents into consideration and works out all alternate routes based upon road type (motorway, A & B roads, etc.) and actual traffic delays, and then selects the best route based upon time. It can't do that accurately with my present issue. Lets say you have 2 routes each 50 miles in length: Route 1 is 50 miles of B road (max speed 30mph) and route 2 is 1 mile of B road and 49 miles of motorway (max speed 70mph). Assuming all traffic is clear Route 2 should be far quicker, and prior to the upgrade it would work out that way. Now it generates the same arrival time for both routes until I get onto the motorway. |

ah, gotcha. one question, dumb question, but i noticed
that when i installed the perspective software, my route preference was changed; what's yours set to?

Another funny was it also disabled my TMC option. |

that's exactly what mine defaulted back to.
i've since changed it to Fast Route. as for the time calculations, i haven't paid that close attention. i'm sure someone will chime in though.

FYI
The ETA issue is fixed with a dealer recode of the system. I'm 99% certain that the issue was caused by going back a version of the firmware and hence back into OEM mode e.g. V26 - -> earlier version - - > V26 = broken ETA and Dynamic Route All is well now though! My ETA showed --:-- when I upgraded to V26 last year when it first came out so I went back to V25. Maybe this was a Beta version? Just loaded V26 with 3d FINAL and can confirm ETA now works fine.

I agree with eaglesrest - don't downgrade if you don't want to take the car to the dealers to get it re-coded.
Downgrading messes lots of things up!!
