Wrong MK3 unit bought

Hello all,

For my car I bought at Ebay a MK3 unit. But now I found it is only for radio navigation. Is there a way to change it, so I can use it with my screen?

Thanks!!!

That old chestnut again. I can assure you that there are components required to drive the monitor that are physically not present in radio nav versions of the nav computer. There is no way (except by re-engineering it) of converting a radio nav unit into a colour screen unit.

Sell it on e-bay again, or, if it was sold as being a colour screen unit, return it to the seller 'not as described' and get a full refund.

RichardP1,

you are wrong....

each nav unit can be coded for Radio or Monitor Navigation.

The only problem is, a few BMW dealers can do this.
Every BMW dealer has the eguipment to do, but the don't know how.........

Well it 'may' be the case that the ones for the 'Monitor Navigation' can be recoded for either, but I've seen inside a Radio Nav unit and there are no components for the video out - there are spaces on the board but that's it.

I am beginning to come to the conclusion that early Mk3 and Mk4 units have components missing but later on units could possibly be recoded to colour even though to date I have never seen one or heard from anyone that has got one that was changed.

I also suspect this would only apply to the MK4 not the MK3
