help for tv module

Hi everybody, i'm following this forum for some months and i think it's very interesting and about this site i think it's done by some guys that are very competent.
Well, now i need a help about this idea: i 'd like to install a tv module i've bought used for few euros in my e39(2002) in which is also installed Navigator system MkIV (monitor 16:9 and dvd reader). Naturally in my car now there aren't tv cables, i'll buy them (maybe the harness that will let see tv driving). The question is: my tv module has this code 6 911 221 and i've found it'd mean it's a 4:3 tv format, so will it work on my system or not? Is it good just for 4:3 monitors?
Thanks
Claudio - Italy

I had a same problem. Оn the monitor 16:9 to me have offered the module 6 911 221.
Me also have assured, that the module will work with 16:9 the screen
etc.on the block there is an inscription LEAR, that means wide screen. I do not know the truth it or not since I have refused it experience
But if you have already bought TV the block it is necessary to connect and check up it by practical consideration. About result experience necessarily write - to me it too very interestingly.
It seems to me, that all will work for you.

Best advise I can give you is to try it and see if it works. Worst that can happen is you'll end up with a picture on the 16:9 screen that doesn't take up all of the available space (letter boxes on the sides).

If it works with the e39 with a MkIV and 16:9 screen then it should work with any i-bus 16:9 widescreen

Hi Jeff, you write of i-bus and i think it's in X5 but i think also my e39 isn't so different from a 2002 X5 because as specified for I-bus, i've got in my car same devices as in X5: the steering wheel controls for the radio, CD, and phone are present in my car. So that i think my navigation system is the same in X5. I can add that on Ebay i 've found the same tv tuner (same code number) and the seller assure you can choose between 4:3,16:9 and zoom function.
As soon as i buy cables, i'll try it.
Bye

The e39 and the X5 (e53) are nearly identical when it comes to the nav systems. If it works in one then it should work in the other.

Perhaps I can be of some help here.

LEAR is the OEM supplier BMW uses for the TV tuner. Other supplier for the TV tuner I believe were Philips, but that was sometime ago.

You may run into difficulties with the 4:3 only tuners and 16x9 displays. Over at bimmerboard A/V forum, some folks made a pretty comprehensive list of what tuners work with what displays.

The following information from bimmerboard NAV A/V forum

-------------------

http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/148787

Here is a list we are trying to put together for TV modules:

The numbers below are 65 50 x xxx xxx. It also includes the
retrofit kit. Let me know of any corrections.
Approximate chronological order with Oldest first!

MKI era part numbers:
8 375 127
8 364 418
6 900 413
8 375 668

MKII era part numbers:

8 370 034
8 483 733/4
8 383 520/1
8 386 287
4 100 223
6 900 858
8 385 959

Two more numbers I've seen on ebay which are not in the ETK.

8 375 553
6 901 456

This list below covers the time from about 2000 thru 2004 when
the Hybrids started showing up.

6 902 015/016 *may only work for small 4x3 screens!
6 903 727/728 *may only work for small 4x3 screens!
6 906 923/924 *may only work for small 4x3 screens!
6 911 221/222 *may only work for small 4x3 screens!
6 916 136/137 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide
screens!
6 924 749/750 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide
screens!
6 923 268 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide screens!
6 923 418 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide screens!
6 936 096 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide screens!
6 936 759 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide screens!
6 945 298 Kit P/N 65 50 0 153 183 *works with both small 4x3
and 16:9 wide screens!
6 946 423 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide screens!
4 124 836 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide screens!
6 953 003/002 *works with both small 4x3 and 16:9 wide
screens!

Latest analog VM 65 50 6 953 002 is about $700
Latest analog/digital VM 65 50 6 966 696 is about $1050

-------------------

If you have a TV tuner, you can buy the original OEM retrofit wiring harness. Its just plug and play. You will find additioanl two wires on the harness that do need to be attached to the BM radio input (pins 11 and 12) for TV Tuner audio. Its very straightforward though.

Wiring harness part # (only available in Europe)

61-12-0-144-096 CABLE SET

For TV in motion, Dietz sell a TV in motion interface. Again very simple to install, and you can enable/disable it by using the Clock key on the NAV. Martin at bimmernav.com sell them.
