What Nav Will Work.... Heeelp

Hey guys, I have a friend of mine picking me up a MKIV for my 01 X5. I am not sure what it needs to come out of for it to work in the X5. He has one out of a 2004 745i but when he looks at his cross reference it shows a different use for a X5.

Does anyone know the years for the MKIV and what models that will cross over.

Will be helping much.

Thanks

The MkIV from a 2004 745i will not work in the X5. The 745i uses the optical MOST bus, whereas the X5 uses the electrical i-bus. Not compatible and not interchangable.

A MkIV from a e38, e39, e46, X3 or X5 will work as long as it is from a vehicle with a color screen (versus the monchrome screen found in certain e46's).

Yeah, to echo, a nav computer out of an E65/E66 is not a MK-anything. They are NAVI01, NAVI02, and NAVI03 computers. The MKxx compuers are only used in the E38, E39, E46, X3, X5, and Z4.

ok, another stupid question. Do you know what year they started using a MKIV. I might be able to get a bunch of these cheap. By cheap I mean around $500 Canadian. I will let eveyone know if and how many I can get. I just need the correct info to direct him what to look for.

I have a document with every known good MKIV part number, to help cross-reference what you may have available to you. I will try to dig it up and post it. One of the things to look for in a MKIV is a higher SW number on the part sticker. No one knows conclusively what the difference between the SW version printed on the part sticker, but it seems that the most desired units are SW3.0 or greater.

Also, you want to make sure the units are already coded for the color navigation systems and not the "business" or monochrome systems. Most dealers have no clue how to re-code a monochrome MKIV to a color MKIV.
