What kind of DVD disc for MKIV backup?

I'm trying to copy my 2003.2 DVD disc for backup purposes. I copied it on a regular (no-name) DVD-R via nero but the MKIV drive doesn't even recognize there's a disc inside. Before I go out and get -RWs and +Rs, what has worked for you?

thanks! I got a brand DVD-R disc and it worked fine. I usually buy bulk no-name discs but the drive in this case won't read them.
