I think I love it!

I am away from home right now, in a city I don't know at all. I have a rental car (crapola Ford Taurus ), but it has the a GPS Nav system ("Hertz Neverlost by Magellan"). It is freakin' awesome!

I punched in my destination, and it took me directly there, even onto the dirt county roads where my destination is. On the way back, I took the wrong exit off the interstate, and it automatically calculated the correction and told me what to do next.

I don't understand...

Are you comparing this to the BMW nav?

Or have you just fallen in love with GPS?

I don't have Nav in my X5, and have never used one before now. I have a little handheld GPS that I have used for hunting trips ("trail of breadcrumbs" to get back to camp) and on my bicycle (speed and distance).

I don't honestly know if this system is better or worse than the OEM BMW system, but I just know that it is cool, and I likey!

Hey doc - I've used the Neverlost system many times in rental cars. Yes, it works well, but despite what many say about our X5 nav systems, our navs are much better than those little things. One feature that I do like about them though is the little bing-bong it gives you when you're at the turn along with the little bar graph at the bottom to show that you're approaching the turn. Our navs don't have those features, but they're not a necessity either - just nice to have. Enjoy!

Oooo, I hate the bongs on those things, but I don't see why it shouldn't be a setting on ours for those that like them. What I really, really want are the breadcrumbs and being able to map out your own roads. I suppose that will come in time.

I'd also like to have weather info in addition to traffic someday. It would be great at times on the highway to overlay a weather radar.
