NAV Map Background Colors

Hi everybody. My first post here (after reading almost every post in Navigation forum).
I've been using portable GPS for almost 5 years, all on PocketPC (have tested and used almost all available softwares), now first time using BMW one on my new X3.

My question to you, experts: what do different map background colors mean? In my city I've seen so far green (parks, this was easy), grey, brown, white. Some kind of administrative borders? This is all within one city. White one is the worst, because the planned white route is invisible on white background.

Based on my 10 days of usage I like the fast routing/rerouting, turn signals. And I don't like the search for POI. Looking for a store I cannot search within store category, have to identify the store type and that's not easy sometimes. You can search within a restaurant category (don't need to do at subcat level), then why not for other categories?

Thanks in advance,
David
