E46 - 2002
Congrats to the moderators This is my (my brother's) problem. My brother just bought his first beemer, an E46 touring of 2002 (150 PS). Now, I want to surprise him and update the navi system. I think i it's one of those rather old, small displays... Can you help? Thanks in advance! |

It is very easy to update the software. check what version you have now - in the 'Set' menu on top right hand side of screen it shows the SW version.
The first digit shows what generation nav you have. eg: 3-1/63 = Mk3, version 6.3 the current versions are: 3-1/63 4-1/91 Otherwise, ifyou wish to change the small-screen to the wide-screen then you need to buy a new one on ebay |

Ok, I checked it and the version is 3-2/50. Is there an update for it?

So, I should update it to the 6.3 version above? Where and how can I do it? Does that mean I have an MK III 5.0 version?

And what does the 2 on the 3-2/50 means?

I have downloaded NavTweak, Nav_KeyCD, v27, but don't know what to do with them or how to recognize a suitable update....

I rechecked the system, and the original cd has the following inscriptions on it:
"2002-2 BMW Digital Road Map Germany" I checked its contents and it nothing to do with what we are talking about: Instead of NAV_SW, it's called NAV_DB, with a TPD folder in it. Could it be that the "3-2/50" legend is not the version? In fact, it's not on the top right, but rather on the lower right, of a function "SET" that belongs to the trip computer |

3-2/50 means you have version 5.0, and you have the 'mono' nav. The nav unit is integrated into the radio: this is kown as radio-nav, or 'mono' nav, as it does not have the full colour map.
(correct me if you have a different nav unit!) The newest software will provide bug fixes and improved functionality and is worthwhile. You need to download a nav OS version - any OS disc above v24 will do - and burn a CD. The OS-disc contains different versions for different nav systems (eg: Mk2, Mk3, Mk4), that's why the OS-disc version is not the same as the nav version. NOTE: the OS CD must be burnt as Mode2/Form1 format, if you use ImgBurn it will make the right format OS CD. Make sure you verify the burn afterwards. Then turn ignition to Pos1, insert the OS CD into the nav and follow the onscreen instructions. |
