Proposed new menu text

I'm going to make a my own build of nav firmware (aimed at people in the USA) and put it up for download.

It'll have
1) a custom BMW starup screen (yet to be designed)
2) a neater sky picture in perspective mode
3) the ability to switch between American and British voices (French will be removed)
4) more intuitive menu text. Here's what I'm thinking:

Thoughts?

The very best of luck. I think that what you are playing with will ulitimately end up with you killing your system. - But perhaps you have loads of money to replace it? You are messing with software that you cannot possibly understand.

And by the way, you need to get out of your Mom's bedroom & enter the real world. Your right hand doesn't work unless mom say's it's OK for baby...........

I accept that challenge.

I should have it completed by tomorrow.

I've made a few similar changes (although not the French to US English) using Navtweek II in a customised V28 and all works fine.

I think all your planned changes have been done before and are documented here. Make sure you use the female voices only - don't try the male files as these are much older and smaller.

I changed "Memorise Veh. Position" to "Memorise X3's Position"

Be careful with the sky - I changed mine to a better resolution image but ended up with a broad white band for the horizon - the colour change from blue (top) to light blue to white (bottom) must be similar to the BMW standard sky image to avoid this problem.

Actually, I already successfully have a sunset picture I took as the sky on my nav, it's not similar at all....

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I want to update my nav software but scared to screw something up. I asked a dealer to do it and they were going to charge $260 - so I figured I'd just keep the old version without any of these neat things.

Did I say tomorrow? I meant today .

I just successfully completed all 4 of my tasks. You can now switch to GB (British) voices!

Startup screen.. picture I took this morning:

Now called "Info & POIs (Points of Interest)" instead of "Information":

Now called "Points of Interest" instead of "Travel Information"

Point of Interest (POI) in city or at current location...

Address book entries are now called ENTRIES instead of "addresses"...and "Add current location" replaces "Memorize Veh. Position"...

My sunset sky picture... taken at Pescadero State Beach on Hwy 1 in Northern California. It scrolls left or right as you turn just as the clouds do in the default picture...

...and finally, in settings, you can choose GB! You'll get the same English menus with the British voice!

I recon' I'll upload this mdf/mds to megaupload later today.
