Replace analogue tv tuner by hybrid

I am about to replace and analogue tv tuner in an E39 by a hybrid tuner. Is it necessary to switch of the battery before the switching or is it sufficient to turn off the ignition key? In case the battery is switched off does this affect the coding of the navigation computer? Is recoding necessary?

It is probably safest to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery before you do the swap. If you have navigation, make sure that the little red LED on the nav computer turns off before you disconnect the battery. (This usually takes about a minute or so.) The exchange will not require any recoding.

All that said, I remove my TV module, nav computer, and DSP amp all the time without disconnecting power. Officially, that is probably a little reckless, but I like to tinker.
