Go here and download v23, the link for v22 is dead, FYI. v23 will update that MkIII, I did it about 8-9 months ago with v23.

If you have a CD burner on your computer, my advice would be for you to do it. Although you have an MkIII as I do, we don't have the same model vehicle, and I've never used the same CD to upgrade Nav a second time after using it once, who knows what kind of pitfalls await with that.

Download a program called "Clone CD"

Download the .zip file from the link in the previous post in this thread

Extract the files from the .zip folder

Burn the .ccd file as a data CD, not a DVD

Follow the instructions for upgrading the software OS and get additional infohere.

Let us know if you need help, and good luck.

First, read through this FAQ - http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-59.html - and let us know what nav drive you have and what version of the OS you currently have.

You will be able to take your nav drive from V17 (3-1/30) to V22+ (3-1/63), which will give you split screen and a few other bells and whistles as well. But you are going to want to do this in stages. And to warn you in advance, although small, there are risks associated with doing this - especially with a MkIII. If an OS load on a MkIII goes bad then the unit is fried. The newer MkIV's appear to have a much improved recovery mechanism.

Before you start you will want to make the following disks - KeyCD, V18.2, and V22. You can download them at http://bmwnavigation.com/software/Na...tware_Updates/ and use CloneCD (download at http://slysoft.com). There are tips on how to make the CD at http://www.bimmernav.com/software.htm.

Once you have the disks ready then you will follow these steps:

1. Go to your vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the first position. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode.
2. Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!!), go back and eject the navigation CD from your drive unit.
3. Put in the V18.2 disk into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically and should ask you for the KeyCD.
4. Put in the KeyCD and let the upgrade complete.
5. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.
6. Eject the navigation CD and put in the V22 disk into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically.
7. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.
8. Check your settings and you should now be on 3-1/63.

Note that once you go to a splitscreen OS you will no longer have the on board computer (OBC) information displayed below the radio station information when you are on that screen. The OBC information is on a separate screen now, which you can get to by hitting the "MENU" button.

Yes, each is a separate disk, and be sure to use high quality CD-R disks (and not a CD-RW)!!

Best tip I can offer is to carefully read and follow all of the steps that I wrote above and those that I linked to. And don't try to take any shortcuts. Take your time and it should be fine.

You could try going to the dealer, but most have never done this and will give you the "deer in the headlights" look when you ask them. Also, most will not have the KeyCD handy. It may be worth asking, though. Some may charge you an hour or two in labor (even though it's a 15 minute job), while others will do it free of charge. It all depends on the dealer.
