Angry Screen gone dim but still readable

A few days ago, my nav screen went dim on its own. Does anybody know of a fix? Searching this forum, the problem seems to point to the backlight on its way out. I can't seem to find a recommended fix or someone who has gone through a fix. Any specific detail is appreciated!!!

04 X5 - 16:9 Screen
MKIII (I think?)

Thanks!

Wallie,

I think I may be having the same problem. My screen kind of appears to look greenish and dim.

I know that doesn't help you right now, but I hope to get to the bottom of it. Let me know if you hear or find anything and I will let you know as well.

Robert

I have the same issue, i disconected the battery once and the screen corrected on reconnect e.g., I re-booted. it was fine for 6 months but now its a day by day issue, somedays dim, somedays perfect.
Ambient temperature has no effect......

Anyone know the problem or cure?

Replace LCD screen
or
Repair LCD screen if you have access to the manuals/knowhow/etc.
or
Send to Alpine Repair Center
The entire On-Board Monitor Screen is made by Alpine so ring the central Alpine service facility in your country to find if they offer a repair service for the unit. Some countries do, some don't.

I have seen this problem come from two different causes.

1. The CCFL lamp in the LCD has reached its end of life (get a new LCD)
2. The DC-DC converter on the main board has failed (most common cause).

Open it up and take a look for burnt bits. They are obvious to the those who have a sharp eye!

Finding the replacement part is the challenge.

There most be something in the air. My 16:9 display is getting dimmer too. It seems related to temperature. It is darkest on cold mornings when I start the car. It usually gets a bit brighter by the time I get to the office. It is hard to read on cold days in sunlight.

My issue seems to be pretty day by day. I am not sure if it is temperature dependent. I have been less worried about it and busy fixing my license plate annoying alarms. One of the bulbs kept going off and I finally figured out it was because the bulb was loose.

Wish I had more info on the navi screen. I did try to take out and make sure all cables were tight and they were. I think I am about used to it anyways now. It is like permanently in a night mode (not because of settings though). I think it is just dying I might buy another one ebay....they are not THAT expensive...but you don't know what you are getting really so...its a risk. We'll see. Robert
